21-Jan-2015

Denver, Colorado – January 21, 2015 – The National Western Stock Show opened to the largest crowd in history on January 10, 2015, but one cattle operation truly shined — Cherry Knoll Farm. The West Grove, Pennsylvania-based cattle operation ushered in the New Year with numerous wins across all divisions during both the Junior and Open Angus Shows.

During the Junior Angus Show, held on Thursday, January 15, Trista Bates of Manhattan, Montana, led Cherry Knoll Elisha 1146 to the top of the Cow/Calf Pairs class, and was named the overall Grand Champion Cow/Calf Pair. Her Summer Heifer Calf, StreamSide Elisha 46B was named division Champion while Lexi Wright’s Cherry Knoll May 1449 was named Reserve Summer Heifer Calf Champion.

The ribbons did not stop with the siblings as Savannah Levisay of Creston, CA, showed Cherry Knoll Lady to a class win and the Late Heifer Calf Reserve Champion. This show wrapped up a very successful Junior career for Savannah, as she will age out in 2015.

Lexi Wright showed her own Cherry Knoll May 1449 to a class win and was named Reserve Summer Heifer Calf Champion. Her late heifer calf, Cherry Knoll Elsa 1430, finished fourth in her class. Brother Logan Wright of Philippi, West Virginia, led his Junior Yearling Heifer, Cherry Knoll Lady 1356, to finish fourth in her class.

During the Open Show, Trista Bates secured her second Reserve Grand Championship of the 2015 National Western Stock Show with Cherry Knoll Elisha 1146 in the Cow/Calf Division. Cherry Knoll Total Product, owned with Matt Mitchell of Reinholds, Pennsylvania, and shown by Tim Fitzgerald, won the Senior Bull Calves Championship.

Cherry Knoll Farm continued to be strong competitors. Kathryn Coleman’s Cherry Knoll Rosebud 1456 won the first class of the day for the Open Show, finishing first in the Late Spring Heifer Calves division as a June heifer.

Logan Wright captured first place in the Junior Yearling Heifer class with Cherry Knoll Lady 1356. His bull calf, Wright CKF Kay’s Product, placed second in a strong class of bulls.

Lexi Wright and Cherry Knoll May 1449 finished second in the Late Spring Heifer Calves, and Lexi returned to the ring with her Junior Yearling Heifer Wright CKF Elsa 1301 to finish third.

Savannah Levisay’s Cherry Knoll Lady turned the judges’ heads in the Late Spring Heifer Calves and placed second in a very competitive class.

“I was very excited for the Juniors and how well they showed their cattle, how they worked and supported each other as a team, and I am so excited for Savannah Levisay to have a great ending to her Junior years,” Owner of Cherry Knoll Farm, Margaret Duprey said. “If it wasn’t for the parents, these Juniors would not have the opportunity to do this, my hat is off to them for being so supportive of their children and their ambitions to show cattle.”

Cattle Manager Tim Fitzgerald concluded,“It was so nice to be very competitive in the calf divisions at the 2015 National Western Stock Show, especially since the calf divisions are the toughest of the show. Our junior families are special, there are really good folks backing the kids. The parents are second to none. We will be looking forward to bringing back the heifer calves as big heifers next year and being just as competitive.”
